About MacCafé & the Business
A brief history of the MacCafé
In 1980, the forerunner of the MacCafé, Abacus II, first opened it's doors. While the Macintosh did not exist at the time, Abacus II was authorized as an Apple Reseller. By the time of the Macintosh introduction in 1984, Abacus II was the leading reseller of Apple products in Northwest Ohio.
Over the next two decades, Abacus II opened, closed, and moved several retail locations and business-to-business sales offices in Ohio finally settling at the Sylvania building that housed all divisions. Over that time period, the company had become authorized to sell and service a wide spectrum of major brands in addition to Apple. The focus had also changed to small to medium businesses as the core customer.
Early in the new century, it became apparent that to best service the Mac community, we would have to create a separate business unit specializing in Apple products. In 2002, the new MacCafé began operation as an Apple Specialist. Our beginnings were humble, with only a one person sales staff and 600 square feet of retail storefront. Since then, we have grown in staff, space, and most significantly, with the addition of the service department.
In October 2007, we moved to our present location on Talmadge Road. With this move, we were able to create a better experience for our customers with a bigger showroom and a more spacious service area.
"Fifteen years ago, enterprise technology was higher-quality than consumer technology. That's not true anymore. It used to be that you used enterprise technology because you wanted uptime, security and speed. None of those things are as good in enterprise software anymore [as they are in some consumer software].."
